PhD Scholarships at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Highly competitive PhD Scholarships are available at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, according to the NTU-MIPT Double-Degree Graduate Exchange Programme http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/assourin/MIPT.htm. Only students interested in future research and academic career should apply.
The graduate PhD project has to start in July-August 2007 and last 3-4 years. This is a full time fully-funded research project which has to be done 100% in Singapore at NTU. The workload is high, especially during the first year. The working environment is excellent. Monthly stipend: S$ 1,500 of which about S$ 500 will pay for meals and accommodation. No part-time job is allowed however there can be a paid teaching job offered if the student is capable of handling it. During the tenure of project, the student has to take several (5-7) graduate subjects up to the School's discretion. After the first 1-1.5 year of study there will be a confirmation examination. The application process is very competitive and it takes about 6 months to apply and complete all the paper work and obtain the student visa. At least Bachelor degree with a mean grade 4 is required. Good TOEFL and GRE scores will be needed to apply. Other requirements and the application procedure are available at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/GradStudies/research+programmes/default.htm. To apply to the NTU-MIPT Double-Degree Graduate Exchange Programme students must hold Russian citizenship and be registered at SIM department. Other MIPT students may apply for a normal PhD project. The only difference is that these students will not receive Magister degree from MIPT while working on their PhD projects at NTU. Interested in working on the following projects should email (in English) the prospective supervisors as soon as possible.

- Experience in computer graphics (undergraduate course at least, former projects will be an advantage)
Further advantages will be given to candidates with
- Experience in web (Java Script, Perl, etc.) and web3d (VRML, X3D) programming
- Knowledge of grid and/or cluster computing.
PhD Project: Visual and Force Feedback Simulation in Nanoengineering

The proposed project is a pioneering research in visual and repulsion/attraction force feedback simulation allowing manipulation over biological systems at nanoscale level. In this project, we will propose a novel approach which employs visual and force feedback tools to search for the optimal interaction between helices. The search is manual, complemented with a feedback from the models which can be either a repulsion or attraction force locally calculated between two corresponding molecular systems. These forces will be computed in real time from the interaction energy calculated using essentially van der Waals interactions. It is expected that developed methods and algorithms will dramatically advance research in predicting correctly associated configurations of TM helices complexes in rational drug design.
Requirements: Students with mathematical and programming skills who are interested in molecular modeling, computer graphics and virtual reality are encouraged to apply.
